HOW TO USE SOIL SCOOPS FOR MESS-FREE CONTAINER GARDENING

The one thing that mostly creates a mess in Container Gardening is, filling soil to the containers. I’m slightly clumsy, so I make a huge mess every time I work with potting mixes and soil-related work in the garden.

I tried a lot of hacks and DIY projects to solve that soil mess issue. But they’re helpful not a perfect solution for this mess. Until I find Soil scoops. This tool and its structure help to relieve me from creating soil mess.

Finding the right tools that solve our gardening problem is a blissful process in gardening. Because the tool makes the process easier and more efficient. We’ve different plants and different garden spaces so we need a unique tool that solves the problem.

People have different choices and creativity when choosing their plants, and pots and designing their gardens. Not only the garden is unique the problem itself is unique. I saw people effortlessly use trowels to fill soil without making any mess.

But I always make a mess, because my garden is filled with medium and small-sized pots. It makes it hard to reach tight spots. Sometimes I use to shake to level the soil or use a hand fork or hand rake to make the soil even. But those two tools not can be helpful to ignore the mess part.

I tried DIY like cutting the plastic bottle and re-shaping the plastic trowel tools. But those end up in their lives too soon or have sharp edges (harmful to hands). So, I bought a Metal soil scoop. The scoop the not so deep but it’s not making a mess like before. I reach my tight spots.

I can’t say this is a must-have, life-changing (motivation speech vibe check) or one tool for all. But it is helpful for people who are clumsy like me, who need to cut off the mess. People who need to reach those tight spots for little pots. This tool is a saviour. Let me give you a detour and insight into the tool.

A soil scoop is a tool with a deep bowl-shaped scoop with a pointed tip. The curved shape helps to hold the soil and protects soil spilling. The pointed tip helps to reach tight spots and pour soil directly.

Design Variations

The soil scoop is available in metal and plastic materials. Compared to Western markets, Indian market scoops are less depth and they are designed as multi-purpose curvy trowels or shovels with sharp tips, so you can pour and dig.

But the Western market has some more functional Scoop., you can see those scoop in Online shops but they’re pricey. But I saw some scoops that looked like Western scoops. (I’ll show it in the product recommendation section).

The Differences

Okay., this paragraph is for people like me who are confused about soil scoop, Trowel and shovel. Out of the syllabus, I thought pet litter scoops as soil scoops (they’ve similarities).

Soil Scoops are used and designed to lose the soil mix and hold the soil with the deep bowl.

The trowel had a flatter blade designed for digging and loosening the hard soil surfaces.

The shovel had large meant for heavy digging with those sharp edge blades. It’s helpful to move larger amounts of soil but not useful to pour soil without spilling in pots.
